| THE FINAL INSPECTION The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true? The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't alway be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes,God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Excepted to calm their fears. If you a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't , I'll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell" - Author Unknown - |
All I ASK I saw this soldier kneeling down this was the first quiet place he had found. He had traveled in jungles of rivers and mud he had tasted sweat and shed his blood. His hands were scarred and all toil worn he had fought for days from night till morn'. He Clasped his hands as he looked at the sky I saw the tears swell in his eyes, He spoke to God and here's what he said. " God bless my buddies who now lay dead'. " I do not know what you have in mind," "But when you judge them please be kind". " When they come before you, they'll be poorly dressed". " Their boots will be muddy and their clothes will be torn", but these are the clothes they have proudly worn". " Their faces will be unshaven and stained with blood", " Their hearts will be still and cold inside", "So please take care of them as they pass your way", " The price of freedom they have already paid"' " This one last thing I ask in your name", " Please place these men in heaven's hall of fame". | Hear the Thunder As we prepared to mount our bikes, He asked, "Tell me why you ride. There's nothing that you few can do For these soldiers who have died." "You're wrong" I answered back to him, " Yes, they all have paid the toll, But we can help people remember When they hear the Thunder Roll." "These men and women served their country, their deaths were not by choice. They fulfilled their solemn duty And now we are their voice." "Some returned in shrouded coffins. They served and gave their all. Some went to serve in foreign lands, And never returned at all." "So we ride to offer honor to All those who paid this toll. We ride so you'll remember them, When you hear the thunder roll." By: Bill "uglicoyote" Davis USN 1967-1971 2007 |
| "WE STILL SERVE" You left your home, so young and brave A proud Marine, not a bit afraid. To a war you went so far away. Your country called, you had to obey. Now in a land where death does abide, You fight and strive to stay alive. Though in the Jungle so thick it hides the sky, To mud of the paddies where you dry. No longer the boy so full of dreams. The naive kid with a thousand schemes. For you have aged beyond your years. And know the pain of a thousand tears. In thirteen months of death and hell. You live a story you dare not tell. A story of how you aged a hundred years. On your way home you have time to reflect On the friends that have died and the ones that you left. A tear comes to your eye, which you can't control, A tear that comes from your very soul. You seem withdrawn from friends you've known, A man alone in a place called home. Your youth you left so far behind, In a place that will live forever in your mind. For the nights of terror have just begun, The screams of the dying and you are one. That war in a land so far away, Now lives with you from day to day. By: Thomas Farrell |
| "REMEMBER OUR FALLEN HEROES" If you look in the hearts of our heroes You'll see tears swelled with pride Yet underneath there's a shadow of sadness For the Soldier no longer at their side. Side by Side they served with honor To God's arms they go one by one From the hearts of a grateful Nation We remember our Daughters, our Sons. Their selfless deeds have been many. Blood's been spilled in the sand for liberty. Without hesitation they guarded our freedom Over land, in the skies, on the sea. They answered the cries of the hungry Liberated those whom where suppressed. Courageously they safeguarded our glory With a loyalty that ceases to rest. With love we pay homage to the fallen These patriots, our heroes, our friends. Who've paid the ultimate price for freedom and the flag they chose to defend. Their Service must never be forgotten Their deaths won't ever be in vain We vow to look after their families and hope our love will ease their pain. This flag is to honor the fallen As a reminder Freedom is not Free These heroes gave their lives for their Country They gave their lives for you and for me. |
